KHADC to take up funds release with govt

SHILLONG:

The Chief Executive Member (CEM) Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) , Titos Chyne, on Wednesday said the executive committee will follow up with the state government on the status of the health and sanitation funds released by the central government to the council.

Replying to a supplementary question raised by Congress MDC Carnes Sohshang, he said, “It is surprising that the state government has not released the funds.” However, he assured the MDCs that the funds will not be diverted.

Later, speaking to reporters after the session, he said that there are four components of the health sector grant comprising the first component scheme which is for the conversion of rural PHCs and sub-centres into health and wellness centre for which the ministry has sanctioned Rs 9.28 crore.

The second component is on building sub-centres, PHCs and CHCs where an amount of Rs 3.21 crore has been sanctioned for the state.

Chyne further said that the third component which is sanctioned at an amount of Rs 23.30 crore is meant for the urban health and wellness centre.

He added that the four-component is for the block level public health unit where an amount of Rs 9.25 crore has been allocated to the state.

The CEM will write to the Ministry of Finance to seek clarity on the implementation of grants earmarked for the health sector.
