SHILLONG:
Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh, on July 6, visited Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills district to attend a meeting of social welfare department, at Vanni Hall, St. Peter’s Higher Secondary School, Pyndengrei, Nongstoin.
Lyngdoh was accompanied by Garod L S N Dykes, Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills district; B D Marak, Superintendent of Police, West Khasi Hills district and Director of Social Welfare C D Lyngwa besides other district officials and stakeholders including anganwadi workers, children from various shelter homes and NGOs of the district.
Speaking at the occasion, the Social Welfare Minister appreciated the hard work and dedication of everyone working tirelessly for the betterment of the district and the state as a whole, further calling on the gathering to continue to work together in the interest of growth and progress of the society at large.
On the status of Aadhaar enrollment in the district, the minister informed that the coverage has improved considerably, lauding the persistent efforts made by the district administration in mobilising the general public. Further, the minister encouraged everyone to register themselves for Aadhaar to avail the benefits and schemes provided by the Centre and State government.
Furthermore, Lyngdoh also sought the cooperation of all stakeholders in the combined efforts of ushering peace and prosperity in the society considering the surge in drug abuse cases. Referring to social media, the minister advised those present on the occasion to utilise the medium judiciously and not to misuse the same.
