Poll authorities seize over Rs 10 lakh from South West Garo Hills

According to state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Frederick Roy Kharkongor, the first seizure was made at 2 pm and the second seizure was at 2:30 pm.

In its continued effort to check the use of money in the upcoming elections to influence voters, authorities in the state are making seizures wherein the flying squad seized over Rs 10 lakh from South West Garo Hills.

On January 24, the squad seized a total amount of Rs 10,03,500 from two different parts of Garo Hills.

According to state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Frederick Roy Kharkongor, the first seizure was made at 2 pm and the second seizure was at 2:30 pm.

Kharkongor said that the statements of the people held with the amounts are being verified.

“The people from whom seizures were made didn’t have any supporting documents with them. Their claims are under investigation,” the CEO said.

According to Kharkongor, as the current period is under Model Code of Conduct, there is prohibition of carrying more than Rs 50,000 in cash.
