Post-poll violence: Face-off between Congress, BJP supporters

The scuffle broke out when supporters of BJP candidate AL Hek carried out at a rally after his win.

SHILLONG:

After announcement of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly election results on March 2, there was post-poll violence at a few places in the state with Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters coming face to face in Pynthorumkhrah.

The scuffle broke out when supporters of BJP candidate AL Hek carried out at a rally after his win.

As per reports, the BJP supporters allegedly blasted music as they were passing by Congress candidate PN Syiem’s residence which made him furious. Syiem is said to have gone after the supporters and abused them.

Following the incident, the police reached the spot and an FIR was filed by the victims. The Meghalayan tried contacting the victims but they did not want to talk.

In another altercation, Rocky Hek and a BJP supporter came to blows after the former threatened the supporter. Following the incident, police personnel have been stationed in the concerned area.
