Power dept not in position to do away with load shedding: Sanjay Goyal

Chairman-cum-Managing Director of MeECL Sanjay Goyal further said that if rainfall is sufficient in the days to come, and the department is comfortable in terms of water level, the government will definitely reduce the load shedding hours.

SHILLONG:

Chairman-cum-Managing Director of MeECL Sanjay Goyal, on June 13, informed that though the water level at Umiam has risen by almost 6-7 feet, however, the present level is also not sufficient to completely do away with load shedding and ensure uninterrupted power supply.

Briefing media persons if the state can get some respite on load shedding given the increasing water level at Umiam, Goal said, “So, we have arranged additional power from NTPC and buying extensively from the open market to maintain the present level of load shedding. Of Course, other projects such as Leshka are run by the river projects and we don’t have the storage capacity,” Goel said.

He said that the power department has not gone ahead with load shedding during the day time in the last few days given that there was enough rainfall.

Goel further said that if rainfall is sufficient in the days to come, and the department is comfortable in terms of water level, the government will definitely reduce the load shedding hours.
