SHILLONG:
Deputy Chief Minister incharge of Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong, on May 6, informed that the body of the truck driver, Roning Nongkynrih, who was shot dead allegedly by BSF personnel on the evening of May 5, has been handed over to the family members on May 6 and the funeral will be held on May 7.
When asked about the reason behind the killing, Tynsong said, “I don’t know what made the BSF personnel to take such an extreme step as to open fire; I can’t say anything much because investigation is still on. Let the law take its own course.”
He also refrained from responding to a question on whether action will be initiated against the BSF personnel who were allegedly involved in the shooting.

Roning Nongkynrih of Jalynteng village under Raid Nongkynrih in East Khasi Hills district, along with the handyman, who is also said to be his brother, were on their way from Laitlyngkot to drop the cattle at a place near Pynursla when they encountered a BSF truck that overtook them and stopped a few meters ahead of them.
The handyman said that the personnel got down from the truck and that was when the shooting happened around 11 pm on May 5.
