Eight pro-Inner Line Permit (ILP) organisations have requested an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit, on December 18.
The group includes Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU), Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF), Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Achik Youth Welfare Organization (AYWO) and Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE).
KSU chief Lambokstarwell Marngar said, “We have urged the state government to facilitate the meeting with the Prime Minister. We want to take up the long pending demand for implementation of the ILP, inclusion of the Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India and others.”
Mentioning that a decision is yet to be taken, Marngar said that the group will not meet Amit Shah who will also visit along with the PM. “We have met him at least three times in the past, we don’t want to waste our time.”
