The Marwet clan on June 4 insisted that only a Marwet candidate should be chosen as the circle headman for area under Raid Marwet in Ri Bhoi.
The demand came after a letter was issue by the Hima Mylliem to the office of the Syiem of Raid Marwet, stating that several villages, including Byrnihat Pyllun, Baridua Pyllun, Norbong Pyllun, and Umtyrnga Pyllun, need to select a circle headman to oversee their respective villages within Raid Marwet.
The letter also stated that anyone interested in contesting for the position of headman to submit their documents to the Office of Syiem Raid Marwet by June 30.
Following which the representatives and villagers of Raid Marwet met Syiem Raid Aron Ken Syiem wherein they told him to select candidates from Marwet clan only for the headman posts. However, if the Marwet people wish to choose candidates from other Khasi communities, the people of Them Marwet will make their own appointments. They also mentioned that if the work falling under Raid Marwet can still be managed independently, they will do so.
Syiem assured the villagers that their concerns will be conveyed to the Syiem Office of Hima Mylliem and the higher authority will make the final decision regarding the matter.
