Rajya Sabha polls in Tripura on March

Agartala:

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday has announced biennial elections in Tripura which would be held on March 31.

According to a press statement of ECI, the 13 Rajya Sabha seats included two from Assam, one from Tripura, three from Punjab, one from Nagaland, three from Kerala, and one from Himachal Pradesh.

Jharna Das Baidya is the present MP from Tripura to Rajya Sabha and her term of office will expire on April 4.

The press release further reads that the elections and counting of votes will take place on March 31.

The poll notification will be issued on March 14 and the last date for submission of nominations will be March 21 while scrutiny will be held on March 22 and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is March 24.

“Adequate measures for close monitoring of the election process by appointing observers shall be taken to ensure a free and fair election. Broad Guidelines of Covid-19 as already issued by ECI,” the press release stated.

It is further read that the commission has also directed the Chief Secretaries concerned to depute a senior officer from the state to ensure that the extant instructions regarding Covid-19 containment measures are complied with while making arrangements for conducting the elections.
