SHILLONG:
The process of land reclamation in mining areas across the state will begin soon.
A meeting in this regard was chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma with the officials of the forest and mining departments and representatives of the Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDI) here on May 2.
After the meeting, Sangma said, “This was a meeting that was held between CMPDI and departments of forest and mining and the main objective is to work towards a plan for the reclamation of the mines whether it of minor minerals or major minerals.”
Stating that there is a fund available with the government for reclamation of the mines, the chief minister said, “Hence, this is a process which we want to start and we have been engaging with many agencies but now CMPDI which is a very experienced agency of the government of India with vast experience in all these aspects.”
“We had a detailed meeting with them and we are working on how we should move forward for this entire issue of land reclamation,” he added.
