KSU will write to PM, HM for probe into Walinda’s death

The girl was found dead in her hostel room on April 27. Rajasthan authorities have declared her death as a suicide after conducting a post-mortem.

SHILLONG:

National Commission for Women (NCW) member Delina Khongdup on May 2 visited Rajasthan to enquire about the death of Walinda Binong, who allegedly died of suicide, while  the KSU will write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to investigate the death.

The girl was found dead in her hostel room on April 27. Rajasthan authorities have declared her death as a suicide after conducting a post-mortem.

“We have taken up the issue with the NCW through its member Delina Khongdup and now she is in Rajasthan,” sources informed.

Meanwhile, members of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women will visit the residence of the victim at Marngar in Nongpoh.

The MSCW also said that the commission will do what is within its powers to ensure that a proper investigation of the case is carried out and timely justice is met with.

The commission said that the death of any young person, any young woman, is a tragedy beyond measure.

“What is deeply concerning are the circumstances surrounding the series of events that led to the loss of a young girl’s life. This incident underscores the abuses experienced by women and girls, on a daily basis,” V.H.Blah MSCW Member Secretary said.

The North Khasi Hills District unit of the KSU on Tuesday expressed grief over the sudden death of Walinda from Margnar, who was a student at Mody University in Rajasthan

The KSU has decided to write to Modi and Shah to investigate the death of the young girl from the state.

The unit Ferdinald Kharkamni informed the media that he had a conversation with Binong’s father over the phone.

According to the post-mortem report, Binong had marks in her neck and injuries in her hand and foot which convinced the family that it’s not a suicide.

In order to ensure safety of other students from the state, proper investigation needs to be done. The KSU urged the state and the central governments to look into the matter.

The KSU also expressed gratitude to the KSU Delhi Unit for standing by the family and helping to bring the body home.
