NONGPOH:
Frequent power disruptions in western Ri Bhoi have left the locals frustrated with the cuts impacting the daily lives of residents and students alike.
Receiving numerous complaints from the public, members of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) visited the SDO of MeECL Patharkhmah Division on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, C Thangkhiew HYC western Ri Bhoi unit president, HYC Ri Bhoi unit general secretary Tony Shylla and other members informed reporters that they met with the SDO to address the ongoing power cuts in the area.
According to the HYC members, the SDO attributed the electricity disruptions in Ri Bhoi area to shortage of workers and irregular bill payments by the public.
In response, the HYC emphasised that it is the responsibility of the MeECL department to ensure an adequate workforce for uninterrupted power supply.
Regarding the issue of unpaid bills, the HYC requested the public to be diligent in paying their bills.
Additionally, the MeECL also proposed organising public awareness to encourage responsible electricity bill payment. The HYC expressed their willingness to support and participate in this initiative.
