Ri Bhoi district, which is known for its indigenous and traditional cuisines for decades, has added a cafe serving local food.
Mei Ramew Cafe or Mother Nature Cafe is located at Khweng Village in Bhoirymbong C&RD Block. It aims to encourage food entrepreneurship and support local economy, promote traditional food that is sourced from the environment and land from where it is produced and to promote personal hygiene and cleanliness for community wellbeing.
Plantina Mujai, the owner, said that she has been very fond of traditional cooking since her childhood and has now come up with a cafe with the support and initiative of the North East Slow Food and Agrobiodiversity Society (NESFAS).
Speaking to the media, NESFAS representative Khrawborlang Wahlang expressed happiness at the start of the café on Saturday.
He also said that NESFAS aims to preserve the tradition of the state, especially to bring tasty, healthy, local food that is inseparable from the responsibility towards maintaining the environment and the preservation of agro-biodiversity.
