NONGPOH:
The Ri Bhoi District Magistrate has declared four villages – Umsawriang, Madan Nonglakhiat, Mawlyngkhung, and Syllei-U-Lar – as containment zone following reports of deaths of pigs. There have also been suspected cases of swine flu in certain villages in the district.
The Ri Bhoi district magistrate clamped Section 144 Cr PC on the recommendation of the District AH &Vety Officer with effect from May 16, 2023, to contain the disease within the mentioned areas so as to enable the veterinary department to trace and search for the cases
 Moreover, the district magistrate has also prohibited pig-rearers, pig slaughtering, and sale of pork meat in the infected areas until further orders; all pig owners and farm owners should maintain hygiene and bio-secured condition at all times and restrict the entry of personnel into the farm premises, the order stated.
