Three pig farms declared ‘epicenters’ of ASF

They include the government pig farm in Pynursla (East Khasi Hills district), the government pig farm in Nongkasen (West Khasi Hills), and Umsawniang (Ri Bhoi).

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary in an order on Friday has declared three pig farms as ‘epicenters’ of African Swine Fever (ASF) disease.

 

 

They include the government pig farm in Pynursla (East Khasi Hills district), the government pig farm in Nongkasen (West Khasi Hills), and Umsawniang (Ri Bhoi).

 

The government came up with the order following the test result of pig tissue samples on March 30 regarding the confirmation of the African swine fever outbreak in Meghalaya by the North Eastern Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (NERDDL) Guwahati on April 19.

 

With a view to preventing, controlling, and eradicating the disease, the department declared the three areas as epicenters of ASF.

 

 

As per the National Action Plan for control, containment and eradication of African Swine Fever published by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, the restrictions are applicable with immediate effect in the villages under 1 (one) kilometer radius surrounding infected premises (epicenter of disease) designated as –‘Infected Zone’ and in all villages falling under 10 KM radius surrounding infected premises (epicenter of disease) designated as ‘Surveillance Zone’.
