Khliehriat:
The Save Hynniewtrep Mission (SHM) will hold a rally at Khliehriat, on December 30, at noon.
The groups which include the Hynñiewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM), East Jaintia National Council (EJNC), Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), Jaintia Student Movement (JSM) and the Confederation of Ri Bhoi People (CORP) launched the Save Hynniewtrep Mission this year.
The organisations appealed to the public to attend the rally to oppose the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the grant of a prospecting license and/or mining lease for coal in the state, to stand up against corrupt practices, and to highlight the reservation policy.
Meanwhile, the HITO will also take out a procession on Friday starting from Motphran to protest the comment made by TMC leader Kirti Azad on the Khasi traditional attire (Jymphong).
It may be mentioned that the TMC leader had tweeted a photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the traditional attire along with a picture, apparently, he took from a website, of a woman wearing the same ‘multi-floral embroidered dress’.
