JOWAI:
Residents of Lapangap village in West Jaintia Hills have strongly objected to the move by the Assam government to set up a border outpost (BOP) in the area that falls under Meghalaya.
The dorbar shnong came to know on December 29 that officials from West Karbi Anglong district of Assam visited the village on Wednesday without their knowledge to scout out the land for the BOP.
“We only came to know today that they had come to inspect the site for the proposed border outpost,” Lapangap headman Deimon Lyngdoh said.
He informed that a team of Assam officials from West Karbi Anglong besides Baithalangso MLA Rupsing Teron, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) executive member Rina Terangphi and police officials visited the village.
Lyngdoh also said that the proposed area for setting up the BOP falls under the jurisdiction of the village under Elaka Shilliang Myntang which is known as Yengkien Psiang.
Where development in the area is concerned, he informed that people from the village had by themselves constructed the road from Khanduli to Lapangap using the MGNREGA scheme which they had received from Meghalaya in the year 2021.
