The Seng Longkmie Umsning in collaboration with the Umsning Sports and Cultural Club organised a felicitation ceremony on October 5 for the students who performed well in various exams, as well as those who excelled in sports and brought glory to the town.
The event was attended by MLA of Umsning constituency Jason S Mawlong, who was also the chief guest, general secretary of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) North Khasi Hills District (NKHD), James Hitler Mawphniang, who was the guest of honour, chairman of Umsning Town Dorbar, Rocky Kylla, and headmen of six villages.
Addressing the gathering, Mawphniang congratulated the toppers and sports persons and said, “This award should not make you arrogant, instead work harder in whatever field you are in, and we encourage you to take the Civil Service Exam as we need many Khasi bureaucrats to work in various Department.”
Mawlong during his speech told the toppers and sports persons that if they ever needed anything, he is always there to help them as they have chosen him as their representative.
Encouraging the youngsters, Mawlong said, “Even if you are socially deprived, don’t lose hope. Take it as a challenge and face it head-on so you can serve your village and community.”
Saying that Secretariat lacks full fledged Khasi IAS officers, Mawlong added, “We have full hope in you and I know you can do it. We have many Khasi doctors, engineers, PhD. scholars, but we need civil servants also.”
Others present at the event also wished the toppers well and encouraged them to attempt the Civil Service Exam and other higher courses.
