Shah announces 33 per cent reservation in govt jobs for women in Tripura

The union Home minister was on a day’s visit to the state to attend the fourth anniversary celebration of BJP-IPFT government.

AGARTALA:

As a gift for women in the state on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on March 8, announced that 33 per cent of government jobs in Tripura will be reserved for women.

Shah, who is on a day’s visit to Tripura to attend the fourth anniversary celebration of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) government announced a number of schemes for the state during a rally at Vivekananda Maidan. Shah also urged the gathering to support the BJP in the upcoming Tripura Legislative Assembly poll “for the prosperity of the state”.

“As the government is completing its term next year, I urge the people to give BJP one more chance, and we will make Tripura the number one state in the country. This time we shall come with the report card of accomplished tasks and I assure you before the next elections, each and every promise made in the poll manifesto will be completed,” said Shah.

During his day-long programme, the HM first inaugurated the silver doors installed at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum of Tripura Sundari Temple at Udaipur.

Following this, Shah flew back to Agartala to attend a public rally, and after that, travelled to Anandanagar on the outskirts of Agartala to attend the Bhumi Pujan and foundation stone-laying ceremony of National Forensic Science University.

Claiming that Tripura is moving towards becoming self-reliant, the union minister said, “After four years of the BJP government, I can see that Tripura, which was earlier plagued by drugs business, is now moving towards becoming self-reliant. The BJP government has done the work of providing electricity to every poor in the state”.

Accusing the then Left Front government, Shah alleged that the communist used the poor for their own benefits.

“Communists ruled Tripura in the name of the poor for around 25 years but did nothing for the welfare of the poor,” he said.

Taking a dig at the then Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPIM) government, he said, “Killings of political opponents was common during the communist government. Today, I am proud to say that chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb has worked to put a complete stop to political killings in Tripura,” he said, adding that 39 BJP workers were killed by CPIM cadres before the formation of BJP government in Tripura.
