Shillong all set to host G20 meeting; traffic congestion poses challenge

Speaking to media persons in the city, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said, “We had a detailed meeting with all the concerned departments, and I am happy to tell you that we are ready to welcome the G20 delegates to Shillong.”

SHILLONG:

The state government, on April 12, held a review meeting to oversee the preparations for the G20 meeting on space, which will be held in Shillong on April 17 and 18.

Speaking to media persons in the city, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said, “We had a detailed meeting with all the concerned departments, and I am happy to tell you that we are ready to welcome the G20 delegates to Shillong.”

Apprising media persons on the special arrangements the state is making for the meeting, Tynsong said everything is being looked into — from beatification and repairs to security arrangements, adding that the state is all prepared to host the meeting successfully.

He said that more than 120 delegates from different countries will arrive in Shillong for the meeting, and that their accommodation have been arranged at Marriott by Courtyard. The meeting will also be held in the hotel.

Stating that one of the major areas of concern during their visit will be the traffic in Shillong, Tynsong said that all officials have been instructed to oversee the traffic arrangements.

“The SP (Traffic) and all other higher officials have been instructed to work out the details on the routes to be taken by the delegates (sic),” he said.
