Six held for killing fish hawker in Tripura’s Dumbur

Investigations reveal that the incident took place due to professional rivalry between the deceased and accused persons, the police said

AGARTALA:

Tripura police arrested six more persons for killing a fish hawker and injuring two others, on the intervening night of January 30 at Dumbur in Tripura’s Gomati district.

The arrested persons have been identified as Palajoy Reang (45), Thaichou Mog (28), Sunu Tanti (22), Rajendra Bonas, Narjyaram Reang (26), and Nirmal Khairi (29), the police informed.

Earlier, the police had arrested two persons – Chayan Kumar Chakma (24) and Ranjit Tati (31) – on the night of the incident.

On the intervening night of January 22, Chitan Das (40) died and two others – Jitan Das (46) and Litan Das (36) – were injured when some people assaulted a group of fish hawkers on Tirthamuk road, while they were on their way to Mandirghat, Dumbur, the police said.

“After the incident, a case was registered against the assaulters. In the morning, various investigation tools and scientific techniques were employed while investigating the case. Based on the findings, Gomati police has arrested 6 persons on January 29,” the police said.

“Investigations reveal that the incident took place due to professional rivalry between the deceased and accused persons. We have recovered the weapon of assault and further investigation of the case is going on,” the police said.
