SHILLONG:
President of the Hill Farmers Union (HFU), Commander Shangpliang, has urged the government to build National Highways from Lad Mawreng, Weiloi to Mawkyrwat rather than intermediate roads so that both tourists and locals may benefit.
Shangpliang, a resident of South West Khasi Hills, said that the district is one of the wealthiest in terms of well-known tourist destinations.
In addition, he said that if state schemes appear to be in scarce, the government should approach the Centre for centrally-sponsored projects.
