Gabriel K Iangrai’s lawyer revealed on November 12 that a Special Court has ordered the suspended police officer be remanded to judicial custody till November 25.
As Iangrai was escorted to a vehicle, reporters asked if he was being framed, but he did not respond.
Iangrai, who was arrested on November 2 by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), was admitted to a hospital on the same night due to medical complications.
He was sent to seven-day police custody on November 5 after he was released from the hospital.
On November 2, CID sleuths arrested Iangrai for his alleged involvement in the misappropriation of funds sanctioned for construction of establishment of the National Emergency Response System (NERS) Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) facility at Sadar Police Station Complex.
It may be mentioned that Inspector General of Police (IGP) CID, Meghalaya O Pasi had said a case was registered on October 28 based on the allegation of misappropriation of funds by Iangrai, MPS in the construction of NERS PSAP facility at Sadar PS Complex.
As per the FIR, he did not call for any Notice for Inviting Tender (NIT) nor has he given the work to an authorised government agency but he has constructed the NERS building by utilising the police personnel by procuring materials directly from a contractor in violation of the Meghalaya Financial Rules, that is, without a detailed plan and estimate, details of any muster rolls, certified payment details as per procedures, bills etc. and submitted false UC of the entire amount.
Further, langrai also provided a false Completion Report without clearance from either engineer or any inspection committee flouting the normal procedure.
