SHILLONG:
Despite the Ministry of Education ranking Meghalaya at the bottom of the table in the Performance Grading Index (PGI), Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma said that the state ranking has improved to jump two places.
Briefing media persons on July 10, Sangma said that the state’s PGI ranking has improved over the last three years, with the state being ranked at level 6 this year, as compared to the bottom level 8 in 2017.
“All these big cities are already ahead of us in the PGI ranking for last many years, we cannot improve our ranking overnight and be par with these states. But, if you look at the figures of last four years, the rating has improved, and it is a positive sign for us,” Sangma said.
Admitting that there are limitations, and strides to be made, Sangma assured that in the next few years the education will improve on the state.
He said that the rankings were based on a number of parameters such as accessibility, network, and infrastructure, which schools in rural areas of the state lack.
