State receives 131 pc above usual rainfall

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the state from June 10 8:30 am to June 11 8:30 am received 52.2 mm of rainfall which is 131 per cent above the usual received during this part of the year.

After a long spell of dry and hot climate, Meghalaya has been experiencing wet weather for the past couple of days bringing respite to the people.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the state from June 10 8:30 am to June 11 8:30 am received 52.2 mm of rainfall which is 131 per cent above the usual received during this part of the year.

The usual rainfall received during this part of the year is 22.6 mm.

According to the IMD, the North East will very likely receive widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over the region during the next five days. According to the IMD, Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills district and Sohra (Ram Krishna Mission) East Khasi Hills district received 14 cm of rainfall each while the rest of Sohra received 11 cm of rainfall.

However, the incessant rain has led to landslides and water logging in some parts of the state.

In Rngain, under Pynursla constituency, a landslide took place in the morning of June 11. Movement of traffic was halted for a few hours before it became functional around noon.

The Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People Riwar Mihngi circle, Pynursla donated around Rs 50,000 to He Khongkhlad, an experienced machine operator who is in charge of clearing debris, for fuel and machine to clear the road.

In the capital, heavy rain since Saturday night, the surrounding areas of Polo, Langkyrding, Fourth Furlong were submerged.

The heavy rain in the last few days has seen the increase in sale of umbrellas and raincoats.
