Several prominent student bodies, civil society groups and NGOs of the state have decided to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.
Namely the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia Garo People (FKJGP), Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) and Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), in a meeting held in Ri Bhoi’s Umsning on March 2, decided on the move saying that they will collectively send the letter under the banner Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong.
Several headmen of different villages of the district also attended the meet where leaders voiced their opinions on the issue and lamented over “the Centre’s decision to not respect the resolution that was adopted by the state Assembly in December 2019.”
The leaders also cited Manipur, where the Centre approved ILP in 2020, as a case in point, to further their cause.
Several leaders, including Lambokstar Marngar, president of KSU, Dundee Clif Khongsit of the FKJGP, Sadon Blah of HNYF, Bipul Thangkhiew of RBYF, Ferdynald Kharkamni of KSU North Khasi Hills District, Luistar Lyngdoh of FKJGP, and Marcus Marten of HNYF attended the meet.
