Jowai legislator Wailadmiki Shylla, on September 9, inaugurated the suspension footbridge over the Myntdu river at Umdalong, Ialong Village in West Jaintia Hills district.
Shylla said that the bridge, besides serving the purpose of the farmers, will also help tourists who visit Ialong Park.
Sanctioned in 2016 by the office of Block Development Officer, Thadlaskeiñ C&RD Block, the bridge was constructed at the cost of Rs 65 lakhs
The Rangbah Shnong of Ialong village, Ram Phawa informed that Ialong Eco Park attracts thousands of tourists every year, and the bridge will further boost tourism in the area.
He said that Wah Umdalong which is a part of River Myntdu will be preserved as Fish Sanctuary by the Dorbar Shnong.
Shylla, who was the chief guest at the inauguration programme, lauded the Dorbar Shnong for proper implementation of government schemes particularly the MGNREGS.
“Through this scheme various development projects have come up in the village,” he said.
Meanwhile, Shylla has also assured to sanction Rs. 20 crores to repair internal roads of the village and also the Ialong Park road.
The inauguration program was attended by MDC Phasmoon Dkhar, BDO, Brightstar Langbang, DRDA project director, FB Basan, and residents of the village.
