The centre, on May 16, informed that Meghalaya has 49.66 percent households with tap water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
As per statistics provided by the central government out of the 6,51,566 total households in Meghalaya, 3,23,537 households are with tap water supply.
In comparison, as on date, five states – Goa, Telangana, Haryana, Gujarat and Punjab and three Union Territories – Puducherry, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu and Andaman and Nicobar Islands have reported 100 percent coverage.
Himachal Pradesh at 98.35 percent followed by Bihar at 96.05 percent are also poised to achieve saturation in the near future, the report said.
Goa, Haryana, Punjab, Andamn and Nicobar Islands, Puducherry, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu are Har Ghar Jal certified states/ Union Territories, i.e., in these states/Union Territories, the villagers have confirmed through Gram Sabhas that all households and public institutions in the village are getting adequate, safe and regular supply of water.
