SHILLONG:

Contrary to popular believe that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) will be launching the WE (Women Empowerment) Card soon, its candidate from North Shillong, Elgiva Gwyneth Rynjah informed that this will be implemented only if they are voted to power.

While urging the women of the state to enrol, Rynjah “If enrolled women of the state will get benefit from 2023 onwards if we are voted to power.”

The TMC candidate also claimed that it is the only party in the state who is looking for the welfare of the women.

She also informed that the registration for the We Card scheme has reached 10,000 plus in 48-hours.

The scheme is universal and aims to benefit each of the 5.5 lakh plus households across the state irrespective of religion, caste, class or income bracket.

According to the TMC it has been curated keeping in mind the heavy losses that the state economy suffered due to Covid-incurred losses, alongside misgovernance and several scams perpetrated by the current NPP-led MDA government.

We Card, a financial inclusion programme for women empowerment was launched by party chairperson Mamata Banerjee at State Central Library in the city on December 13.

Under the scheme, Rs 1000 will be transferred to the accounts of registered beneficiaries every month.
