Train service in Lumding-Badarpur section likely to resume from July 10

In total, restoration works at 46 locations have already been completed and work at other 15 critical locations is going on in full vigour, said NFR.

GUWAHATI:

The restoration work of railway lines that were damaged due to heavy rain and landslides in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section of Lumding division is nearing completion and Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is confident that train services to the station will resume from July 10.

“NF Railway is targeting speedy restoration work in the entire hill section to restart services by July 10. The weather in this region is still fierce, but the intensity of rainfall has lessened. Even in such weather, thousands of workers and hundreds of machines are working day and night in this area under the supervision of railway officials. The entire stretch from Badarpur to Jatinga Lumpur has already been restored,” said an NF Railway official on June 13.

Restoration work of the railways is continuing in full swing in the Lumding-Badarpur section of NFR in Dima Hasao with the situation gradually returning to normalcy. Breaches had occurred at more than 61 locations in this section, resulting in disruption of the rail communication to the hilly states of Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur and parts of Assam.

“In total, restoration works at 46 locations have already been completed and work at other 15 critical locations is going on in full vigour,” the official said.

Earlier in May, continuous torrential rainfall and massive landslides had damaged around 85 km of railway track in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section of Lumding division and train services to the region were suspended from May 11.

In locations such as Maibong, Mahur, New Haflong, Jatinga Lumpur, New Harangajao and Damcherra, the exaggerated downpour resulted in landslides, flash floods and washouts causing multiple disruption.

Earlier, the Centre had announced Rs 180 crore for the restoration of rail lines in the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section that were snapped by flash floods and landslides in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on May 22.
