Tripura by-polls: AITC’s Abhishek Banerjee to campaign in Agartala on June 14

Banerjee will participate in a road show and will also address a public meeting on Tuesday, the party informed.

Agartala:

With the by-election to the four assembly seats around the corner, All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee will be arriving in the state on June 14 and start his campaign for party candidates in Tripura.

West Bengal AITC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, on June 13, said that Banerjee will participate in a road show and will also address a public meeting on Tuesday.

“Banerjee will campaign in two phases. On Tuesday, he will do a roadshow and conduct a meeting. He has to go to Delhi for urgent work so the Tripura unit has asked him to come to Tripura again on June 20 for the second phase of the campaign,” Ghosh said.

The roadshow will start from Gandhi Ghat under Bordowali Assembly constituency at 12 pm and will culminate at Agartala’s GB Bazaar, where Banerjee will also address a public meeting.

Meanwhile, slamming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly attacking AITC workers and supports, the party, on Monday, wrote a letter to the Election Commission.

Notably, in the past two weeks, AITC has written at least four letters to the commission citing various instances of assaults and threats allegedly issued by BJP workers.

“Why do we have to raise this matter again and again? Isn’t it the Election Commission’s role to look into this on their own, particularly in Agartala and Surma? The BJP’s ‘bike baahini’ have been openly threatening and intimidating people. Our flags and festoons are being torn off or removed. If needed, we will gherao the Election Commission,” said state president Subal Bhowmik.

The AITC also questioned changing the chief minister barely weeks ahead of the elections.

“The fact that BJP removed a chief minister ahead of elections, shows that the issues raised by us in the past few months were valid. The people of Tripura now need to go against a lot of issues. Those who think it is okay to increase the price of essential commodities and fuel can vote for BJP. But those who want to remove BJP for its misgovernance should vote for Trinamool,” Ghosh added.
