Training on bamboo handicraft underway in Garo Hills

BAGHMARA: 

The one-a-half-month training on bamboo handicrafts was inaugurated by Garo Hills Autonomous District Council Chairman and MDC Gasuapara Sengchim N Sangma on Wednesday. It is funded by Meghalaya Skill Development Society, South Garo Hills, Baghmara.

While expressing his gratitude towards the organisers, Sangma stated that bamboo can be used for various decorative items and these eco-friendly products have a wide variety ranging from baskets, small stools or moorah to some utility items of various designs like pen stand, mugs,  plates, glasses, vases, containers besides others.

He also urged upon the trainees to utilise their skill and talent as this will help in self employment generating venture by which they can earn and also employ others.

The MDC also informed that the Government through Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme ( PMEGP) is giving loans to anyone having certificate for small scale industry.  One can avail loan and start by themselves if they complete the training. He added that one has to be committed and self determined in what they are doing then only they can be successful in their endeavour.

Altogether 25 residential trainees from Chokpot C & RD Block have registered at Nokpante Institution Learning Centre at Rajarongat Chokpot South Garo Hills.

SDO Meghalaya Skill Development Society, Mithen R Marak, Joseph Ch Marak Director NILC, Fr Daniel Sangma Parish Priest Deku among others were also present in the event.
