SHILLONG:
Admitting that a ban on app-based bike-taxi services will curb employment opportunities of the youth, transport minister Dasakhiat Lamare, on July 18, said that the department will soon come up with guidelines to regulate their operations.
“We are working on the guidelines to ensure that we strike a balance,” said Lamare
He, however, informed that the department has received many complaints from taxi drivers saying that app-based bike-taxi services have affected their business.
“There are complaints received mostly from taxi drivers that they are not getting passengers like they before (due to such service). On the other hand, the public highly appreciate these bike-taxis considering the city’s traffic congestion and less passenger fee,” Lamare said.
He said that, in view of this, the department has decided to come up with guidelines to address the concern of both the parties.
