The daily commute for the residents of Upper Shillong and beyond has turned into a living nightmare. Trapped in a never-ending cycle of gridlock, they find themselves hopelessly ensnared in a web of cars and trucks, unable to move an inch. Yesterday’s traffic jam has stretched into the night and shows no signs of abating.
Some commuters who had the misfortune of leaving work late found themselves stranded for hours, their vehicles barely moving as they inched their way through the city’s congested streets. Others, who decided to stay overnight in hopes of avoiding the chaos, were rudely awakened by the same snarled mess of vehicles that had bedeviled them the day before.
One exasperated resident told The Meghalayan, “I went to sleep and woke up in the same traffic jam.” The endless wait has left drivers exhausted, frustrated, and feeling like prisoners in their own cars. The nightmare journey on those roads shows no signs of ending, and the city’s commuters are left to endure the endless traffic and the endless wait.
