Tripura clocks 120 Omicron cases on Feb 16

Tripura reported 120 positive cases of Omicron on February 16, a report issued by the state health department said.

Of the 231 samples sent to the West Bengal-based National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBG) for Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) in the month of January, 120 tested positive with the latest variant of Covid-19, the report said.

The samples were sent to NIBG in two separate sets – samples collected from January 1 to 15 and January 16 to 31 – of which 69 and 112 tested positive, respectively, the report said.

While West Tripura recorded the highest number of positive cases at 76, other districts – Sepahijala, Gomati and South district, reported 14, 4 and 10 cases, respectively. Five cases were detected from the North district, with Unakoti reporting five cases and Khowai, six cases. No positive cases were detected in Dhalai district.

Currently, Tripura has a Covid positivity rate of 0.35% and 10 fresh cases were detected in the last 24 hours. For the month of February, 99 samples were sent to NIBG and their report is awaited.
