Tripura court sends six Bangladeshis to judicial custody

Identified as Kirtan Das, Himan Das, Sourabh Das, Kaushik Das, Biswajit Das and Subrata Das, the infiltrators hail from Sunamganj area of Bangladesh and had crossed the border in search of work, the police said.

Six Bangladeshi nationals were sent to judicial custody for a week by a local court of Belonia sub-division after they were arrested by Tripura Police late on February 28 night from Rishyamukh village.

Identified as Kirtan Das, Himan Das, Sourabh Das, Kaushik Das, Biswajit Das and Subrata Das, the infiltrators hail from Sunamganj area of Bangladesh and had crossed the border in search of work, the police said.

Speaking to the press, Smriti Kanta Bardhan, officer-in-charge of Belonia Police Station said, “Yesterday night at around 9 pm, acting on a tip-off, the police personnel led by OC of Rishyamukh outpost carried out a raid at Kalikapur village near the international border and detained six Bangladeshi nations for illegally entering into India.”

Bardhan added that infiltrators were taking shelter in a house near the border, without any legal documents, and were arrested under the Indian Passport Act, for illegally trespassing into India. Upon interrogation, all the six confessed of being Bangladeshi nationals.

It may be mentioned that Tripura shares 856 km international border with Bangladesh.
