The Sepahijala District and Sessions Court on Monday remanded three suspected Jamaat Ul Mujahideen (Bangladesh) cadres in judicial custody till April 7.
Police sources said that a case was registered against the trio, identified as Imran Hossain (24), Hameed Ali (34), and Abul Kahsem (32), at the Jatrapur police station of Tripura’s Sepahijala district on the night of April 3.
“After sleuths from a central intelligence agency came here, a case was filed and subsequently, they were arrested. Today (Monday), we produced them in the court and the court has called for the case diary. Till April 7 next, they will remain in judicial custody and on production, the court will hear the police’s prayer for remand,” said a police officer on condition of anonymity, adding that the police had sought five days’ police remand for interrogation.
The police personnel further said that they were able to arrest Hossain after two JMB cadres – Jaheer Uddin and Akhil Ahmed – post their arrest in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, revealed his name during interrogation.
Similarly, during interrogation, Hossain too shared two more names from the same area and the police could arrest Ali and Kashem.
Thereafter, all the detained persons were shifted to Bishalgarh police station for grilling and the central intelligence agency sleuths too joined the interrogation process, said the police sources.
A specific case (15/22) was lodged with the Jatrapur police station in connection with the incident. Several sections of IPC such as 120(B), 121, 124(a), and sections 13(2), 18, 18(b), 38, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) were framed against them.
