Tripura police seizes contraband worth Rs 1.10 crore

While the cannabis was seized from a truck during checking at Baijalbari outpost, the Phensidyl was seized from an off-road SUV at Amtali

Agartala:

In two separate incidents, on February 20, Tripura police seized 1730 kg of cannabis worth over Rs 1 crore and 4000 bottles of Phensedyl worth Rs 10 lakhs from two different locations.

While the cannabis was seized from a truck during checking at Baijalbari outpost, the Phensidyl was seized from an off-road SUV that was intercepted when trying to flee from a police check outpost, at Amtali in the outskirts of Agartala.

Superintendent of Police of Khowai SP Chakraborty informed that two persons, identified as Javed Sheikh (47) and Ismail Hazrat Jamadar (33) both residents of Maharashtra, were arrested under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Giving details about the seizure of Phensidyl, Amtali sub-division police officer Asish Dasgupta said, “When the police signalled the off-road SUV to stop, the driver took a U-turn and tried to flee from the spot. The police personnel, however, detained the vehicle but the driver managed to flee. During a thorough search, we seized 4000 bottles of Phensedyl stored in 40 cartoons,” Dasgupta said.

Notably, the Tripura Police under the leadership of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar is leaving no stone unturned to make the state “Nasha Mukt Tripura”.

It is under this mission that the police have foiled major drug trafficking attempts during the last few days.
