Tripura ‘rebel MLAs’ hold meeting with local leaders to create ‘roadmap’ before 2023 poll

Speaking to the press, MLA Asish Saha said that, since the past few weeks, they have been visiting several parts of the state to meet local leaders who were instrumental in ending the left regime’s rule in Tripura, but today, are deprived of benefits of any kind.

AGARTALA:

Ahead of the state assembly election on February 2023, two “rebel MLAs” of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a meeting with a section of leaders of the saffron party from different constituencies on the pretext of creating a “roadmap” for the upcoming poll, on January 29.

The two MLAs – Sudip Roy Barman and Asish Saha – chaired the meeting at the MLA Hostel here.

Speaking to the press, Saha said that, since the past few weeks, they have been visiting several parts of the state to meet local leaders who were instrumental in ending the left regime’s rule in Tripura, but today, are deprived of benefits of any kind. “And that’s what we discussed in the meeting,” said Saha.

Claiming that the people aren’t happy with the present leadership and anger against it is swelling every passing day, Saha said, “We are now looking at the presence of the party in these areas and also analysing the reasons behind the anger of the common people. We are trying to gauge if the people will express their anger through the ballot (in the upcoming election). We are also reviewing whether the government will have stability or not.”

He also added that it’s not only about the anger among the masses but also about the leaders, who fought to end the left rule but are feeling humiliated and deprived under the current leadership.

“All these issues demand solutions and for that, a proper roadmap is a necessity before the assembly poll,” said Saha.

“After determining the roadmap, we need to reach out to common people. Tomorrow, we will sit with the leaders of the rest of the assembly constituencies. We will take their advice on formulating the roadmap,” the MLA added.

Saha further informed that, after the 2018 assembly election, the main agenda of forming a government was to develop the socio-economic status and social security of the people. “In these four years, introspection is being made of the real situations they are facing under our leadership,” he said.
