Tura mob violence key conspirator arrested after nine-day hunt

An alleged member of the BJP's Mahila morcha, Rakhi Sangma, was reportedly caught from a forest area during a police raid in the North Garo Hills district very close to Damra in Assam.

TURA:

One of the last remaining key conspirators of the July 24 mob violence in Tura, Rakhi Sangma, who had been on the run from police for the past nine days has been arrested from Nishangram, close to the Assam border, this morning.

An alleged member of the BJP’s Mahila morcha, Rakhi Sangma, was reportedly caught from a forest area during a police raid in the North Garo Hills district very close to Damra in Assam.

“We received inputs that she was taking shelter in someone’s house in the Nishangram area and launched operations. She was spotted inside a forest close to a river,” informed West Garo Hills SP V S Rathore.

Rakhi had reportedly fled with her husband to the Nishangram area after the Tura violence and her name had cropped up in the investigation.

She was at the venue in Tura when the mob turned violent and had a series of communications with another accused conspirator Jaynie Ningring Sangma.

Police have recovered a series of social media chat communication between the two where minute-by-minute detail instructions were allegedly shared prior to and during the attack.
