SHILLONG:
Twelve more bodies of trainees were recovered on Thursday but no trace of Meghalaya climber Tiklu Jyrwa yet, as per the report from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi on October 6.
As of Thursday, till 4:20 pm, the total number of recovered bodies stands at 16 (2 Instructors and 14 trainees with 4 bodies already recovered on October 4).
Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Indian Army, ITBP, High Altitude Welfare School and Indian Airforce are conducting the search and rescue operation at Draupadi ka Danda 2, the ill-fated site.
Currently, the heliborne operation has been stopped due to bad weather. Evacuation of bodies by helicopter will resume on Friday morning, depending on the weather condition.
35-year-old Tiklu Jyrwa a member of the Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA) along with a team of 41 trainees of Advance Mountaineering Course including instructors of Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Uttarkashi struck by an avalanche while coming back from the summit of Mt Draupadi Ka Danda at Uttarakhand on Tuesday.
Tiklu Jyrwa, a resident of Upper Lumparing and also a family member of Wallambok Lyngdoh, General Secretary MeSCMA was sponsored by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs through MeSCMA for the Advance Mountaineering Course.
While returning from the mountain peak the Advance Mountaineering Course team met with an avalanche that occurred above camp-1 in which 34 trainees and 07 mountaineering instructors were caught under the avalanche at 8:45 hrs.
