TURA:
Even as Garo Hills was reeling under the devastating impact of flash floods another tragedy occurred on a personal front for two families who lost their loved ones to suicide.
A 15-year-old girl took her own life in Daren Agal village near Tura on Thursday.
“We have taken up a case and investigation is on,” informed West Garo Hills Superintendent of police V S Rathore.
In a separate incident, a 60-year-old man identified as Rucheng S Sangma hanged himself at Tebronggre village due to a personal problem.
Suicides, particularly of young boys and girls, have been plaguing the region for the past many years. The absence of counselling in schools and colleges has been blamed as one of the main reasons for this social problem which refuses to go away.
