Two aspiring candidates join BJP

These are Wossie Rani and his supporters from Mawphlang, and Highlander Kharmalki and his supporters from Mawryngkneng.

SHILLONG:

Two aspiring candidates for the 2023 assembly polls from Mawphlang and Mawryngkneng constituencies joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on December 22.

These are Wossroi Rani and his supporters from Mawphlang, and Highlander Kharmalki and his supporters from Mawryngkneng.

Rani before joining the BJP was the Mawphlang unit president of the NPP and Kharmalki contested the last bye-election in 2021 on a Congress ticket.

State BJP president Ernest Mawrie said that the people of both the constituencies wanted “change and development” and therefore joined the party.

Mawrie also informed that Wossie Rani from Mawphlang constituency along with 200 of his supporters joined the party in a programme in the party’s office.

Kharmalki said that he joined the BJP since Mawryngkneng still lacks development and the saffron can do many things to uplift the constituency.

“I believe that if I win the 2023 assembly elections I can bring many developmental schemes,” he said.

According to him Mawryngkneng still lacks economic development.

Kharmalki said that he left the Congress since all its legislators left the party and now it has become weak if he was still with the party it would be difficult for him to bring benefits for the constituency.

Asked if he was lured with money to join the BJP, he said that there was nothing like that but it was his supporters who wanted him to join the saffrron party.
