SHILLONG:
Reports of two MLAs from the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) – Banteidor Lyngdoh (Mawkynrew) and Gavin Mylliem (Sohra) merging with the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) have surfaced at a time when political parties are busy preparing for the May 10 assembly polls in Sohiong.
When contacted, both Banteidor Lyngdoh and Gavin Mylliem have refused to speak to the media.
However, NPP sources confirmed that the two leaders will merge with the NPP in the coming days, before the election to the Sohiong Assembly constituency, though the official date is yet to be fixed.
NPP sources also informed that most of the top leaders of the PDF had already joined the NPP last year, adding that once the two MLAs merge with the ruling party, the remaining leaders of the PDF will follow suit.
If the two PDF MLAs merge with the NPP, the seats tally of the Conrad Sangma-led National People’s Party in the state will increase to 28 from 26.
