SHILLONG:

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that he will meet a section of the pressure groups on November 3 and hopes to have a constructive discussion with them.

He told reporters on November 2 that the door of the Secretariat is open, maintaining that the government will ensure law and order prevails.

As for the violation of Section 144 CrPC by the five pressure groups on Tuesday, he said, “The law is the law for everyone, we need to obey the law. The law enforcement agency has to do the needful.”

Denying that there is law and order breakdown in the state, he said, “It is not at all deteriorating. Whatever procession they had after the meeting, now the law will proceed and few arrests were made.”

He said that he was not in the Secretariat but arrived in the evening.

Tynsong said that leaders of the NGOs are responsible and appeal to all concerned to abide by the law and rules.

Responding to the criticism that the government is too soft against pressure groups, the Deputy CM said, “This is the only government that in spite of the challenges faced from 2018 till date, it was too much, but you never see any unfortunate incident that has happened. So people must have thought that we are boneless, we are weak.”

According to him, the NGOs will say that the current government is approachable, accessible to any issues relating to the interest of the public in the state.

Tynsong, however, refused to comment much on whether the various agitations taking place are politically motivated.

He said, “Let the people judge and understand but no comment on that. The government will make sure that law and order in the state prevails.”
