SHILLONG:
The United Democratic People (UDP) on Friday appealed to the people of Manipur to exercise restraint and make an effort to normalise the situation.
UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh in a statement said, “Violence begets violence and there is no end if conflict is allowed to continue. Peace and reconciliation will come only if the citizens of Manipur themselves resolve to respect each other’s rights.”
Stating that the North Eastern region cannot afford this kind of conflict to continue, Mawthoh said, “We need to write our own history and destiny. The era of Northeast being a conflict zone is over, the time has come to make the NE region a major economic zone. The scrambling for resources, fight for identity and defending territorial boundaries are not justified by force and coercion. It has to stem from mutual respect and humanitarian approach.”
The UDP leader said the unfortunate incidents in Manipur is a bad reflection and needs to be condemned vehemently.
“As concerned citizens and responsible leaders we appeal for effective Central intervention and all stakeholders engagement to restore normalcy in Manipur.”
Meanwhile, the UDP also strongly condemned the barbaric act perpetrated on women folks and demanded stern action against the barbarians.
