Umling residents fall victim to fraudster’s promises of Government jobs

Pasam began his scam in July 2023. However, the Dorbar Shnong of Umling became suspicious and began to investigate. On August 5, 2023, with the help of police personnel from Nongpoh Police Station, they detained Pasan and filed an FIR.

NONGPOH:

Residents of Umling village have fallen victim to a fraudster identified as Armos Pasam, who has been staying in a rented house in the village since April 2023, and promised the victims government jobs, work in pharmacies and clinics, and stalls in government offices. He claimed to have connections with political leaders and prominent personalities in Meghalaya, which led the victims to trust him.

Pasam began his scam in July 2023. However, the Dorbar Shnong of Umling became suspicious and began to investigate. On August 5, 2023, with the help of police personnel from Nongpoh Police Station, they detained Pasan and filed an FIR.

According to police sources, Pasam was arrested in 2019 for the same scam in Umdihar. He was released from jail in April 2023. This is the second time he has been accused of fraud in Umling.

The victims told The Meghalayan that Pasam was very polite and promised them a lot. However, they became suspicious when he could not answer some of their questions about the government jobs and stalls he had promised them. When they asked for their money back, he tried to manipulate them.

The victims said that they rushed to Pasam’s rented house and asked for his documents. However, they found that he did not have any original documents. His only documents were photocopies with different residential addresses. His EPIC card was from Assam’s Karbi Anglong district.

The victims said that they had no other option but to detain Pasam with the help of the Dorbar Shnong and the police. They requested that he be punished according to the law so that this does not happen again.

Additionally, Pasam requested payments from the victims for their registration, a contract job (Rs. 3000), a permanent job (Rs. 16000), and a scheme for their shops (Rs.25000).

More details are awaited.
