Umsning Congress MLA Celestine Lyngdoh has blamed the government for ignoring the proposed construction of a stadium at Kurkalang in Ri Bhoi.
He was on April 12 responding to the request of Ri Bhoi Dorbar and Ri Bhoi District Sports Association asking him to follow up on pending projects to construct a stadium at Kukalang under Khelo India along with others request relating to the welfare of the people especially the youth in Ri Bhoi.
Lyngdoh informed reporters that during the last assembly session, he wanted to raise the topic of Kurkalang but was constantly interrupted and could not do so. He however said he will try his best to raise the issue next time.
He further asked the people to come forward if they have any problem and he will try to raise the issue during Assembly as a representative chosen by the people should.
“Kukalang Playground is not only for Umroi but will be a blessing for Shillong too as games or concerts can be organised there instead of Polo to ease traffic jam in the city,” he said.
He also said, ” If I’m not wrong, the proposal for Khelo India at Kurkalang playground has been rejected, therefore the Ri Bhoi District Sports Association should move with a new proposal”.
