Union Minister Karad assesses development in South West Garo Hills

Dr Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad, Union Minister of State for Finance, embarked on a significant visit to Ampati, South West Garo Hills district, aligning with the mandate from the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER).

Accompanied by MP Agatha K Sangma, Rangsakona MLA Subir M. Marak, Deputy Commissioner R.P. Marak, and Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar, the Minister conducted a day-long assessment of the progress of various government schemes.

The visit unfolded with a series of interactions at consecutive locations. At the Ampati Circuit House conference hall, Karad delved into a comprehensive review of central government schemes and state government initiatives through a detailed presentation.

Expressing satisfaction with the successful implementation of schemes in the district, he underscored the need for collective efforts to foster development in the Northeast region.

Karad emphasised the potential to enhance financial inclusion, particularly in hilly terrains, by extending the reach of banks through the establishment of additional branches. The Minister revealed discussions with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma regarding bank correspondents, and efforts will be made to open more branches for effective service in the region.

Highlighting the importance of improving healthcare services, Karad focussed on increasing the accessibility of quality generic medicines, boosting Ante Natal Checkup, and institutional delivery percentages. He encouraged the registration of pregnant women for the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, aiming to provide financial incentives for institutional delivery.

Addressing the need for awareness, Karad emphasised the promotion of government-backed schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, offering affordable accident insurance. He acknowledged the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission in the district, while calling for increased awareness and improved implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Aawas Yojana.

The Minister acknowledged ongoing efforts in education through Eklavya Model Residential Schools and expressed a commitment to explore the possibility of opening more such schools to provide quality education to tribal students in remote areas.

As part of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra campaign, he interacted with beneficiaries to raise awareness and ensure the saturation of government schemes across the country. The campaign aims to reach the unreached, particularly those eligible for various schemes but yet to avail benefits.

During his visit to Ampati Civil Hospital, he engaged with medical professionals, discussing crucial enhancements for the healthcare system. Acknowledging the urgent need for surgical interventions in the region, he encouraged prompt initiation of surgeries when required, underscoring the potential benefits of a robust and responsive healthcare system for the people of the region.

In concluding his visit, Karad reiterated the collective responsibility to achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, as envisioned by Prime Minister Modi.
