Unreachable for hours, four found dead in car crash in Mizoram

A search operation was launched and at around 9 pm on April 2, the car was found below the road about 150 metres near Chhingchhip village.

Four men were found dead in a car near Chhingchhip village in Serchhip district around 9 pm, on April 2.

The deceased, identified as R Laldingliana, vice president of Lungtan village council, Tlangsiama, a resident of Lungtan village, Lalsangliana and P C Lalremruata, both residents of Republic Vengthlang, Aizawl – had left Lungtan at 7 pm on April 1 and were returning to Aizawl by road, the police said.

“Tlangsiama was called at around 11 pm on Friday by his wife where he told her that they took a bypass road,” a police official said.

The deceased’s families had sought police’s help after all their phones were not reachable for the rest of the Friday night. “Only Lalsangliana’s phone was reachable, but no one picked up,” the official added.

A search operation was launched and at around 9 pm on April 2, the car was found below the road about 150 metres near Chhingchhip village.

The police haven’t ascertained the cause of the death, speculations are doing the rounds that the driver fell asleep at the wheel as he was up the previous night performing funeral rites at the village.
